Apparently this money pit is back on again--with what's now being reported as a $52 million budget!! The weekly operating costs are reported variously as $725,000-$1,000,000.
There is simply no way that any show could ever operate at that high a weekly cost and pay back an investment that big. It may generate huge weeks at first, but how long can that last? I don't think this has the universal appeal of recent monster hits like Jersey Boys and Wicked that can sustain lengthy sell-out, full-price ticket runs.

...and would it ever be able to tour? what are the sets/technical aspects of the show going to be with a budget like that?

Good Moses, I feel like a trainwreck is happening in my backyard everytime I read about another "Turn Off the Dark" mishap. Is there anyway this dang thing is going to ever make its money back?

No way this is making its money back unless it is a "Wicked" or "Chicago"-sized hit. Who knows, it could happen.
But agreed, how can this show ever tour? They'll have to spend another fortune to retrofit a theatre in London or Toronto or Los Angeles to make it happen.
They should cast one of the twinks from the "Twilight" films in there somewhere...
