Originally posted by quin browne: although i have a feeling that goc is going to win, i'd love to see 'reasons to be pretty' score the tony. it really is the first labute play where a male character self-sacrifices. and thomas sadowski carries the arc of the character in a strong sweeping way.
Though I'd have voted for Dividing the Estate, I think reasons to be pretty is every bit God of Carnage's equal -- probably even its superior, despite my general aloofness towards Neil Labute in general. COMPLETELY agree about Thomas Sadoski; of all this year's nominees he is maybe the most unappreciated. He completely carries the play.
That's why I put Sadoski as my preferred winner for Best Actor in a Play. I know it won't happen, but he really creates a down-to-earth character who doesn't have to grand-stand or monologue to capture our emotions.

As much as I adored Billy Elliot, I am hoping that it isn't a BE sweep. Not only will it make for a boring night, but in a season with so much good theatre and so many deserving performances, it only seems fair to spread the wealth around a little.
Next to Normal was outstanding, and I really hope it isn't shut out because that will almost surely mean a quick death. The show is too good to close early. It deserves to have a very long life on Broadway.
