I've noticed that in the General Forum and in the Polls Forum hardly any 'General Discussion' is done and hardly any Polls are created. Most of the forums are taken up with these A-Z and Survivor threads. These are a fun way to pass the time, but I do have a little bit of a problem with where they are situated in the forum - in General Discussion, I think it should be just that: discussion. These A-Z threads boil poster thoughts down to one-word answers, and in the Polls forum the Survivor threads are so numerous and created so often that REAL polls with real discussion of the choices in them fall by the wayside very quickly. The Survivor threads aren't actually Polls, and again they boil things down to one-word answers - not conducive to discussion at all.
So I was thinking that maybe there should be a 'Games' Subforum where all of these threads could be posted and/or moved. It would free up space in both those other subforums for the threads that they were originally intended to host, it wouldn't cost anything but a little bit of time on the moderator's behalf and I think it would be a very popular addition to the forums. I think it would be a win-win-win-win scenario!
Let me know your thoughts, GD. Personally, I think this is something that we really need, seeing as real discussion threads in both subforums are hardly noticeable among all the A-Z/Survivor/other games threads.

I've just discovered the A-Z games, but I also think they probably should be moved. More genuine discussion might arise if the A-Z games didn't push all other threads down the page.
But let's be honest. We should just call the new "Games" forum "Post-Count Boosters!" and include all threads that only require one-word responses. I for one am actively and shamelessly campaigning to make the top five posters for August.

"A movie is not good because it arrives at conclusions you share, or bad because it does not. A movie is not about what it is about. It is about how it is about it: about the way it considers its subject matter, and about how its real subject may be quite different from the one it seems to provide." - Roger Ebert, from the introduction to "Awake in the Dark" (2006)

I've been thinking about proposing this idea to Tom. It seems like a lot of people support this idea, but I think I'll wait and see who else likes the sound of this.
And I do think that the only reason there isn't much "genuine discussion" in this subforum is because the A-Z threads push them off the page almost immediately - especially when posters post in all of them within the space of a few minutes.

Well, it sounds important to you and I'll support it, although I have a few reservations about 'discussions'. But it sounds fine by me. Go for it, pux.

well, I probably should make it more than one word haha
I agree that discussions get pushed too far down the page by the games. Go for it!!

I say screw that suggestion, and let's have a "Personal Awards Subforums", just in case our computer crashes and we lose EVERYTHING... (it has happened, believe me, I know)
BC - check out ymdb.forumcircle.com - when you sign up you get a subforum completely to yourself to use for your personal awards and top films lists.

I have sent a PM to Tom but he has yet to respond. Of course, seeing as he is moving into a new apartment and is putting the blog on hold, this is understandable.

Very good idea, puxzkkx. Sorry it's taken me so long to respond. Let's see how this works out. Have I done this right? If I should tweak this idea, lemme know via PM ... TX
