That is fewer runs for the initial break than I expected, although my guess is that if it works well they'll add new theatres each week, mostly holding on the ones they have. I was figuring they might go to 2000 after the nominations.

I think they can easily get to $10 million for 1/23-29 for the full week, which would get them to $50 million with 3 full weeks and a weekend before the awards.

I think SM is more likely to reach Sideways numbers then $100 mil even with a BP win. It's current PTA is solid its not like it has a PTA of 10K in 600 theaters. We'll also have to wait and see what kind of Oscar bounce the film has after the nominations. I recall people being very surprised when BBM had no bounce and actually dropped after Oscar nom were announced.

I do think SM is the frontrunner for BP. TDK is having a weak precursor run for a blockbuster having missed a GG best picture nom and a SAG ensemble nom.I think its far from certain TDK will win both PGA and DGA which most blockbusters usually win. "Button" should have been able to win BP or BD at GG if it was a serious challenger to SM. I also don't think "Button" can be considered the favorite for any of the guild awards.

Is it really so surprising the internationalist SM won the GG, voted by an international press? Seems pretty straightforward to me. Remember, AMPAS is the same provincial body who voted for the localist Crash...

This "Slumdog" sweep is getting sickening. Is it that great of a movie?

Why don't you watch the film and judge for yourself? Who knows, maybe you'll actually like it and the "sweep" wouldn't seem so sickening after all.

cougar letter and dlanefan, I believe, were the only ones I caught!

I'm famous. She mentioned BabsonLacrosse too. Sorry Tina Fey but I still don't think you deserved to win.

Yeah, I had the same opinion about the movie and then when I watched it before the Globes, I understood why it was getting praise (a little more so after I watched the 2nd time). I think it is deserving of its sweep, but I think a couple of other films are just as worthy.

I actually think it'll grow on me more over the next few weeks/months/years because, for me, it is one of those movies that has to sink in and the more I think of it, the more I appreciate it for what it is.

No film is going to "sweep" the Oscars this year.

Best picture winning at least one of director and screenplay is just about automatic, and winning both happens more often than not.

Slumdog might possibly end up with fewer total Oscars than either DK or CCoBB if one of those two dominates the craft awards.

Saw it this weekend and thought the Globes got a little carried away. It does build to a wonderful finale, but it gives away its entire structure in the first five minutes, so there are no surprises. Also, the rhythm of the editing was a little strange to me--it seemed like many of the cuts came a little too soon. It was distracting.

Did love the full-on Bollywood-style end credits.

For me, "Frost/Nixon" is still the best film of the year, but it has no chance.

Hemingway once told a friend he was considering giving up writing. "But Ernest," the friend protested. "You love writing!" "No," corrected Hemingway. "I love having written."

I don't mind the sweep. "Slumdog", along with "No Country For Old Man" would be the only BP Oscars winners of the decade to make my personal top five movies of the year. The "Slumdog" win will make wins by Streep and and Winslet a bit less churlish to watch.

Congrats Kristen! All the PD haters can (SPOILER ALERT) Suck it!

Blanchett/Winslet Fan, all I can say is to watch this film. I watched it last week. Althought I thought it was a good film, I would have, personally, rank it beneath Milk, CCOBB, and TDK. Yes, it's a feel good film but there were parts that I just didn't like. I also didn't care for the editing and the directing wasn't my cup of tea, if you know what I mean.

I truly hope that there isn't a sweep at the Oscars. I hope another film like Milk, CCOBB, or TDK can win for BP.

YAAAY TINA FEY!!! YOU GO GIRL!!!! tell those haters where to STICK IT!! or suck it!!! LOL
Okay.. these were JUST the globes... nothing is set into stone.. but as we all know everything IS based on timing and politics...10% on talent...here is what is up!
They gave Mickey best actor BECAUSE they are going to give Penn best actor for MILK.. think of the logistics...not taking away from either actors performance.. they were both amazing.. BUT, weighing the affectations of a roided out wrestler who NO one cares about versus A REAL LIFE man who gave to his community.. who died for it...and with the recent loss to Prop 8 and how it angered so many people...the Academy recognize "the time we are in now" and show Penn best actor for the Oscars...it only makes sense...again...take into consideration that politics takes center stage here..then talent macauley GO PENN!!!!

any chance (i know, probably slim to none) of a link to Colin Farrell's acceptance speech transcript. I found it to be, in most places, rather smart and would like to read again and have a copy... rod

I mean, I was shocked when they got nominated, the movie was like a million months old and nobody saw it...

but once you actually saw it you knew he was winning....Just as many people saw Last Chance Harvey and Dustin winning was not star whoring and not typical of young ass kissing Golden Globes....Javier Bardem did nothing to deserve that nomination, James Franco was not winning period and Brenda Gleeson was upstaged by Farrell and is still sort of an unknown (to some), Farrel is far more important...

That's the thing about this horrible year....almost everybody can win....nobody cares enough about a one single actor in a category except Heath Ledger...[/QUOTE]

Colin made me laugh in parts of Bruges, but I dont feel that he upstaged Gleeson. Gleeson was completely believable to me, and the soul of that film.
I think it's a stretch to place this in the Comedy category, but, that's moot now.

I'm seeing Slumdog Millionaire this weekend so I will be able to decide for myself whether this film is worthy of the accolades being heaped on it. I hope it is.

Hey Pixie:

Yes eight movies. fairy

I want to thank you for giving me that sleeping pill?

Eight movies, that wasn't a pill. That was just the Golden Globes.

Okay, Salma Hayek ,kept me awake with her dress doing the pregame show with Tiki.

But well, I kept nodding out, I woke up sometime at the end to see someone accepting for Dark Knight. I saw Kate Winslet win her first fixed lottery ticket. That was enough I guess. With the 47 pages of posts some of you must have found this very interesting. If I get my cable back, then I guess I'll watch the Spirit et. al. But why don't they make this entertaining. Some of these "star's can sing and dance. Some I'm sure can juggle, maybe that would lift the Globes out of cancellation After all they cancel most of TV's good shows. Why not cancel the Globes and just read out the winners like last year. What do you think Pixie. fairy

I'm a star and I like getting dressed up, I think we can keep this parce, party up for another 50 years.
