As far as this award season......... The People's Choice - the people have no taste. The Critics Choice - their opinion is not more valid than my own. The Golden Globes - this is the FOREIGN PRESS. Notice how many foreigners won in the movie categories? The SAG awards will be the one to watch in the movie acting categories this year. They have 120,000 members, 8,000 who are eligible to vote for the Oscars. The are only 120 critics who vote for their awards, and not many more foreign press people who vote for the GG's. Slumdog may win a few of the lessor awards (screenplay, etc.) at the Oscars, but it won't win any acting awards let alone best picture.

That's what I was thinking, too. I keep waiting for middle America to embrace SM, but if you ask me, for them India might as well be another planet, or the place that all those call center jobs get outsourced to...
The Academy has something under 2,000 members of the acting branch, most though not of whom are SAG members.
And yes, SM is going to likely easily win best picture. Among other things, there isn't remotely another contender that one can make a reasonable scenario for winning. Please try if you want, I'd be interested in hearing it.
