People say the occasional funny thing in the movie, as they do in life, but it is dark stuff and should definitely be considered a drama. I can think of films placed in the Drama Category in the past that would be easier to classify in comedy than "Rachel At the Wedding" (say "American Beauty" or "Scent of a Woman") as they were meant to be largely funny. Not the case with "Rachel".

I did see the movie and I loved it, but I was immediately torn after the movie on whether the Globes would classify this as comedy or drama. This movie was very intense, but the only way I will ever classify this as a comedy is if the Globes think about some of Kym's zingers, that dish-washing race scene, and all the music that was involved in the film. Something tells me that RGM will be classified at the Globes as Comedy really only for Anne Hathaway to be a lock and win the Best Actress trophy, but think about it this way, if a film like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was classified as Comedy, well, I have a feeling RGM will be (somewhat wrongfully) classified as Comedy too.

Well, "The Savages" was considered a comedy, so I will say "Rachel Getting Married" will be considered a comedy.

This is the reason why I think it would be submitted in Comedy. Especially if Anne Hathaway won the Globe for Lead Actress: Comedy.
I hope The Office wins as Best Comedy Series for this year's Emmy Awards.

It's very annoying to me, but I do think that the Globes may classify this as a comedy.
I mean, yes, I laughed several times throughout the entire movie. But most of the most dramatic movies have laughter in them--there's humor in life. Just because a bridesmaid gives a humorous speech at a rehearsal dinner, does that make a film a comedy? IMO this should definitely be a drama, but I can totally see the Globes classify it as a Comedy/Musical (especially since song was such a big part of the film as well). This confusion is going to make it very difficult for us to all make our predictions.
I think that the Globes will place this as a comedy in the end. It's strategic and a way to stack the comedy field with a very crowded drama field. It'll also position Anne Hathaway in the actresss field more than she already is. They don't mind nominating dark films in this field when it suits them in a stacked drama field.
Congratulations, Primetime Emmy Winners!

For me it was a drama. And should be placed in drama category. Also Anne Hathaway has a better chance of winning a Globe in this category. If HFPA will go for best performance in comedy/musical category then ther's no question that Sally Hawkins should be a winner.

Streep was hammy as hell in "Doubt". It's one of her worst performance, but most of her fans will be all over the moon with this performance. HFPA won't give her a win this year. She already has 6 statuettes. Kate Winslet has loched up a supporting Globe for "The Reader", so there's no need to give her two one night. And Kristin Scott-Thomas is in a little movie that no one saw, except some critics. Anne Hathaway is this year IT girl, she's young, hot and played a role against her usual work.
